Kirk Gibson scored again during Michigan's 2009 firearms deer season.
The ex-Tigers outfielder and coach took a huge buck Tuesday morning from state land near his ranch in the northeast corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
The deer was old -- 7 ½ years by Gibson's calculations, a number he expects the Department of Natural Resources to confirm after it has inspected the buck.
It was also a 10-pointer, or at least a 10-pointer until a couple of points broke away from the rack at some time this summer or autumn.
"Big swamp buck," Gibson said Thursday, saying the buck was clearly at the end of his life when it came into sight about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, chasing a doe.
"It was one of those days where the frost was white on the fields, and when the sun started coming up, you could see everything," said Gibson, who is a coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. "He was chasing that doe and you could see him great."
Gibson took an immense eight-point buck from the same swampy state land two years ago. It scored 152 points on the Safari Club International scale.
